Who We Are

  • We are people who have been created in the image of God and have accepted the call by God to make art. We believe human artistic expression is a natural reflection of God’s creativity, and under the Lordship of Christ, can be redeemed and used in a way that honors God, the Supreme Artist. The unspoken voice of our heart can be seen through our work. (Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him;”); (1 Corinthians 7:24 “Brethren, let each one remain with God in that calling in which he was called.”)
  • We are devoted to loving Christ and committed to following Him by loving our neighbors as ourselves. It is not uncommon today to find a spirit of intimidation, criticism, and elitism among the art community as the world preaches an “every man for himself” message. We refuse to settle or accept this mentality among our peers. (Matthew 22:37-38 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.”) (Galatians 5:14 “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”)
  • We seek like-mindedness according to Christ and unity through humility. (Philippians 2:2-4 “…Fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.”)
  • We aspire to know and understand the current culture in which we live that we may become better equipped to communicate with it. We recognize the necessity of being in this world but not being of it. (1 Corinthians 9:9-24 “19 Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a servant to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.”)
  • We wrestle with difficult questions and problems life heaves at us, deliberating with open minds and hearts, challenging one another, as we seek answers surrounding our own humanity, faith, and the world in which we live. (Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”)
  • We desire to reflect and creatively communicate life to a lost and dark world filtered through the inner hope and love of Christ that resides in us. (Romans 5:3-5 “…We also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who is given to us.”)
  • We are committed to producing quality work for the excellence and glory of God. We rebuke the narrow-minded view that Christians make “religious” art suited for sanctuaries and Bible bookstores. We acknowledge our artistic gifts are from God and daily commit them into His hands that we may be good stewards of them. (Matthew 25:19-21 “After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. So he who had received five talents came and bought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them. “His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’”)
  • We are a refuge and safe place for wounded people to share their lives without the fear of condemnation and judgment. (Matthew 7:1-3 “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the same measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”) (Psalm 84:5 “Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on a pilgrimage.”)

What We Do

  • We meet regularly to discuss various aspects of art, humanity and faith.
  • We hold a minimum of one Art Circle Member show per calendar year.
  • We promote a biblical worldview and seek to grow in understanding of secularism, postmodernism, other world views, and the challenges of science and technology in hopes of being used by God, as a vessel for change in our society.
  • We provide a variety of opportunities for local artists to show and sell their artwork.
  • We foster an environment of encouragement and edification to artists through critiques and open discussions on a regular basis.
  • We encourage artistic expression and reflection by engaging in group dialogue of issues in art and faith by intersecting local culture.

Why We Gather

  • Ultimately we gather that we may bear witness of Christ’s love and redemption to a lost and fallen world through the vehicle of the creative arts.
  • God has provided a place where we can come together and build into one another as we wrestle through life and our calling.
  • We recognize the challenges and difficulties that come with making art and the necessity of receiving constructive feedback from peers.
  • We endeavor to create, show/sell art and support each other as a community.
  • We desire to be used by God for God’s glory and learn together what it means to be effective communicators of truth and life in our culture.
